The urban gardening trend keeps on growing and it has never been more important than now to grow your own lettuce, herbs and small vegetables at home.

But what is the best growing method for you? In this post we focus on the main home gardening solutions available in the market and what are the main differences between them.

Flexibility on what to grow

This is one of the most important features that people expect from their home gardening solutions. Everyone has their unique plants or herbs that they like to grow, so it’s important that the solution you choose offers you a wide variety of plants for your home garden.

Some of the brands offer close to 60 different plants to grow in their gardens. In most cases, this comes with the cost that the gardens only work with the proprietary seeds from the garden brand.

Only 2 brands offer the consumers the possibly to grow whatever plants they want by using any seeds in their gardens (Tregren and Plantui).

On top of the ability to grow any seed in its gardens, Tregren is the only brand that allows it’s users to also continue to grow the pre-potted plants from the stores. This feature allows to keep the herbs and lettuce from the stores alive and healthy at home for many months, instead of only a few days. At the same time allows users to enjoy the fresh herbs immediately and not having to wait for them to grow from seeds.

Easy to use / connectivity

Not everyone was born with a green thumb and most of us don’t have the needed knowledge nor time to take care of the plants. These are the main reasons why plants die in our homes. Therefore, it’s important that the indoor garden solution you choose makes it easy to keep your plants healthy with minimum effort or prior gardening knowledge.

Although most of the solutions in the market are presented as “smart” and come with an app only two brands we looked at actually have an app that can control, either the entire garden, or some features of the garden (Tregren and Veritable). Other brands either don’t have an app or have a merely informative one with growing and care tips.

Tregren is the only app that allows it’s users to fully control their garden, both the water pump and light. Veritable’s app allows the user to control the light.

Both apps include growing and care tips for each plant and send notifications to the user’s phone whenever the garden requires some attention.


How to get the most bang for your buck?

When comparing the prices of indoor gardens, one of the best ways to measure and compare the prices is to compare the number of plants that each garden can have at the same time. Although some gardens have similar price points, sometimes they differ considerably on their plant capacity.

Plants life span

The different technologies used by the different brands impact on how much time the plants will be alive and healthy. One of the main factors here is on how the plants are getting the nutrients they need to stay healthy.

In this particular category there are basically 2 systems being used: having the nutrients in the seedpods and by adding the nutrients to the water when needed.

While having the nutrients in the seedpods may sound like a good and easy solution, it comes with a considerable cost in what comes to the plants life spam because after a certain time (typically between 3 and 6 months) the seedpods doesn’t have more nutrients and the plants, even if healthy, die fairly quickly.

Adding the nutrients periodically to the water allows the plants to stay alive for much longer period of time (up to years even) because the plants will always have the nutrients they need.

The terms of ordering and delivery

You can shop at the store.tregren.com webstore if you are at least an 18-year old consumer living in Finland or in another European country. Ordering does not require registration.

The product price is the price in euros which is shown with the product information. The price includes VAT 24%. We reserve the right for price changes. For countries outside EU the price at checkout after placing ordering country will appear without VAT. For orders outside EU the customer will bear the VAT and customs cost at receiving the order directly to freight forwarder.

Payment methods
The products and their shipping fees are paid when ordered. You can pay with the following payment methods in the Internet bank: Visa, MasterCard and Visa Electron cards. Ordering and paying take place safely in a SSL-protected connection.

Delivery methods and shipping fees

Time of delivery
We deliver the products to you via DHL Express delivery securely and quickly. You will recieve the package in approx. 1-3 days after we have received your order. If the delivery of the product is delayed for some reason, we aim to inform you about it as soon as possible.

Because of Covid-19 the delivery time is 5-7 days until further notice.
In July and around Christmas our time of delivery is 14 days.

Delivery to European countries 14,9 Eur for orders worth less than 89 Eur, to countiries outside Europe 25 Eur.
The delivery is shipped to you by DHL, free delivery to Europe for orders worht more than 89 Eur delivered by GLS. 

The right of return and change of products
All our products have a 14-day right of change and return according to the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. The product shall be unused and in the original sales package. Please always first contact our customer service at info@tregren.com before sending your order back to us.

We will return the price as stated in the Finnish Consumer Protection Act. The returns will be refunded to the credit card. When you change products, we will refund the value of the total sum of your order. We will return the extra money, if the amount of the return is greater than the amount of the new product(s) you have ordered. We will compensate the refunds at latest in 30 days after the return. Wrong or faulty product
If you received a wrong product or the product is faulty or damaged, contact our customer service immediately either by e-mail info@tregren.com or by phone to + 358 50 568 9770.

Cancelling an order
If you want to cancel your order and the delivery has not yet been shipped, you can cancel the order by contacting our customer service. If the delivery has already been shipped, you should act as described in the return instructions.
